Terms & Definitions

dork

Someone who gets overly excited about topics that can barely pique the interest of the average person. Being a dork is not necessarily a full-time position; some people are only part-time dorks (those who get very excited over fireworks, for example).

dufus

Someone who may or may not be likeable (and generally is), but is so stupid that you can't see past that to their real personality.

dweeb

Someone with no discernable personality.

freak

Someone who is so obsessed with a subject of interest that it threatens to run their lives for them. Everything in their universe revolves around their obsession.

geek

Generally, anyone who is obsessed with their chosen area of interest and is proud enough of this to wear it on their sleeves.

loser

Someone without any useful skills whatsoever, although they may have social skills.

poser

In general, someone who pretends to be a geek. Although they're not obsessed with their chosen area of interest, they're obsessed with looking like they are. More specifically, someone who uses their appearance and demeanor to seem like something they're not.

poseur

Almost the same thing as poser, but with a large helping of Better Than You.

nerd

Someone who regards the ideals of their chosen area of interest with the utmost of importance (ie, the future of the world depends on X). The defining characteristic of a nerd is that being faithful to their subject is more important than fitting in with society.

spaz

Someone who may or may not have good skills or a personality, but who has social skills of such poor quality that they are completely unable to interact with other people in social settings.

weirdo

Someone with an eccentric personality and esoteric interests.

Combinations Thereof

Emo kid

Combination of: freak (universe revolves around supporting their bands), poseur (no independent thought).

Hippie

Combination of: geek (obsessed with pure living), weirdo (unusual appearance)

Jesus freak

Combination of: freak (universe revolves around Jesus), nerd (adherence without regard to social norms).

Yuppie

Combination of: loser (social skills being their primary asset), geek (obsessed with money and proud of it).
